Job Purpose: The intern will assist the Marketing and Fan Development departments with the planning and implementation of all in-market grassroots events as well as in-arena events including the data collection efforts and post event data input. The intern will also assist with in-market partnership activation research.

2014 - 2015 Season TV Production Intern - Columbus Blue Jackets (Columbus, OH)

Job Purpose: Create video web content for Jackets TV on BlueJackets.com


  • Game Days: Daily practice reports: shoot and edit video at the CBJ morning skate and the visiting team practice. Work with CBJ broadcast talent to shoot and later edit a pre-game package previewing that night's game.  Post-game production: Shoot and edit locker room interviews and post on website.
  • Non-Game Days: Shoot non-game day interviews or features with broadcasters or players. Later edit and post video on Jackets TV. Produce various feature videos centering on activities with the players, coaching staff and Blue Jackets departments (Community Development, Fan Development, Hockey Operations, etc.). Help develop scripting, production requirements (camera set-up, lighting, micing, etc.) prior to shoot date. Develop additional videa content ideas to be produced and posted on Jackets TV (BlueJackets.com) with direction and support of digital media and marketing team.


  • His or her major should be focused in broadcast journalism, mass communications, radio/television or similar career pursuit.
  • Classroom or hands-on experience with operating cameras, lighting systems, editing systems (non-linear systems like Avid, Final Cut, or Adobe Premiere), audio, scripting, etc.
  • Must have good verbal and written communications skills.
  • Knowledge and enthusiasm for the game of ice hockey and the Columbus Blue Jackets.
  • Must be able to react under pressure and meet deadlines.

Required Hours: Game days 10am - 1pm; Game nights 6pm - 11pm. Non-Game Day hours will be required for shooting and editing larger video projects and will be determined on a week by week basis.

2014 - 2015 Season Ticket Operations Intern - Columbus Blue Jackets (Columbus, OH)

Job Purpose: The intern will assist with the operations of the Box Office during concerts, events, and/or game nights, by providing excellent customer service to our fans, and processing ticket requests. The intern will also assist in general administrative work including data entry, maintain and organizing files, and other duties as assigned.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Processing ticket orders through the Columbus Blue Jackets Ticket Request Database.
  • Working the customer service window of the Box Office during concerts, events, and/or game nights.

2014 - 2015 Season Ticket Sales Intern - Columbus Blue Jackets (Columbus, OH)

Job Purpose: The Columbus Blue Jackets are seeking a passionate and hardworking individual who is committed to becoming a sales professional. Our ticket sales internship program is designed for students who want to gain first-hand experience on the front lines of a professional sports team.  Under the direction of the sales leadership team, the intern will assist in all aspects of the Ticket Sales and Service department including sales training, event preparation and execution, database collection, etc. The internship will also gain experience in other areas such as marketing, promotions, and operations as needed.


  • Participate in sales training sessions.
  • Manage ticket sales department inventory including giveaway and autographed items.
  • Help with the preparation and execution of the ticket sales events.
  • Work all season ticket holder events as well as events that support ticket sales initiatives.
  • Database collection, input and management.
  • Assist  in mailings and fulfillment.
  • Assist leadership team, sales team members, and other departments as needed.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Ticket Sales Coordinator.


  • Junior or Senior (preferably) with a Sports Management or Business Administration major.
  • Ability to work on average 25 to 30 hours a week in addition to game days.

2014-2015 Season Broadcasting Intern - Columbus Blue Jackets (Columbus, OH)

Responsibilities: Game nights:
- Ability to utilize recording device to obtain post-game interviews to be played back in radio post-game show
- Ability to edit and post gameday highlights and post-game interviews to Blue Jackets social media outlets
- Assist in set-up of post-game show (if show takes place off-site)
- Assist broadcast talent (starting line-ups, intermission and post-game stats, escorting intermission guest to the home radio booth).
- Assist Director of Broadcasting in escorting network affiliate guests to and from the booth (specifically Affiliate Night)
Non-game days:
- Write and produce our weekly radio feature (Blue Jackets Weekly) that will be distributed to affiliate stations on the Blue Jackets Radio Network. Would provide him or her experience in working with CBJ on-air talent, interacting with players and coaches, honing writing and scripting skills, working under a deadline
- Produce Blue Jackets Plays of the Week (weekly feature that runs in the intermission of a game broadcast)
- Produce NHL News and Notes (weekly segment that airs during an intermission)
- Preparation of affiliate presentations and mailings
- Assist in projects within Broadcasting Department (fulfillment of radio network benefits and requests)
- Develop and produce podcasting content for BlueJackets.com. Work with Web Site Manager to learn how to post audio to the Podcast page

Requirements: This internship requires the candidate to have a specific goal of someday working in broadcast production, in particular radio or audio production. His or her major needs to be in Broadcast Journalism, Mass Communications, or a similar career pursuit. Experience at the campus radio or TV station, or a prior internship at a commercial/university broadcast outlet is preferred. Knowledge of editing software like Adobe Audition is required. Must have good communication skills, knowledge of hockey and the Blue Jackets, and be able to react under pressure.

Required Hours: Game nights: 5:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Non-game days 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. or 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (September through end of season).

Facility Operations/Security: Maintenance
Changeover Worker - CBJ Arena Management (Columbus, OH)

Responsible for the planning, and physical set-up and tear down of events and meetings as needed at the Arena.  Performs inspections on all completed work.  Responsible for the condition, cleanliness, and maintenance and repair of all related areas and equipment.  Assists Changeover Manager with the implementation of facility rules, regulations, policies and procedures in related to the changeover crew.  Supervises part time and temporary labor.  Ensures assigned details of event resume information are satisfactorily completed.  Works with the Changeover Manager to coordinate all needs with other departments, team, and show related contractors to ensure all event and building related needs are accommodated.  Provides clear, concise, and timely communication of directives and changeover needs to other departments. Provides general support to Operations Department by accomplishing various related tasks including cleaning, snow removal, repair and maintenance, and other tasks as assigned.  Adheres to OSHA and other applicable safety rules and requirements.  Demonstrates the leadership necessary to assume duties of Changeover Manager when said person is absent via illness, vacation, or etc.


Summary of Duties: 

70%       Assists in all event set ups and conversions.  Supervises staff in successful completion of all changeovers and event set ups.  Inspects all work and makes corrections as needed.  Inspects all work areas and storage areas and maintains all areas to the established cleanliness standard.  Inspects and inventories all tools and equipment and ensures that all are accounted for, safe, and in good working order.  Performs needed maintenance and repairs and works with Maintenance and Engineering staff as support.  Covers building shifts and supervises crews as assigned.  Inspects assigned area for damages, needed repairs, and required project work.  Works closely with the Event Department to ensure that all event related set up needs are accommodated to their satisfaction.

25%     Performs cleaning and janitorial tasks as assigned.  Performs needed maintenance and repairs and completes projects as assigned. Assists as needed in grounds maintenance including landscape, snow removal, and parking garage maintenance.

5%       Assists in scheduling, hiring, and training part time staff.  Assists in task lists, job assignments, and project planning. Other duties as assigned.


Experience required /desired

 High School diploma required.  Associated Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.  1-3 years supervisory experience.  Experience in custodial and building maintenance.  Knowledge of the various event related equipment used in Arena changeovers including:  chairs, seating risers, staging, barriers and barricades, hockey dashers and equipment, basketball floors, and other similar equipment.  Knowledge of common tools used in carpentry, custodial, landscape and warehouse operations.  Must be able to operate various types of mechanical equipment including, but not limited to:  forklifts, scissor and boom lifts, power tools, housekeeping equipment, and etc.  Forklift certification.  Ability to prioritize and to handle multiple projects simultaneously.   Ability to lift 100 pounds and push 100 pounds on wheels.  Ability to stoop, bend, walk and handle equipment on ice.  Ability to work long and unusual hours, with a flexible work schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays. Ability to work and interact with a large and diverse work force and customers and various levels of management.  Willingness to work in a team environment.  Must possess a valid driver’s license.  Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities with minimal instruction.  Ability to provide clear, concise, and timely communication directives. Demonstrated leadership, decision making, planning, and efficiency skills.

Payroll Assistant - CBJ Arena Management (Columbus, OH)

Please note this is a PART TIME position.

The Payroll Assistant will process payroll for the CBJ Arena Management part-time employees and provide general assistance to the Payroll Manager such as correspondence, filing and personnel administration. 


Tasks and Responsibilities:

·         Prepare and process semi-monthly payroll for approximately 600 part-time CBJ Arena Management employees.

·         Ensure New Hire paperwork properly completed and filed for all employees.  Maintain accurate and up-to-date personnel files with assistance of Human Resources Assistant; ensure I-9 compliance.

·         Perform background checks for job applicants.

·         Maintain files and records pertaining to payroll and tax submissions.

·         Database management of PT Stagehands

·         Process unemployment claims, answer government assistance inquires, etc.

·         Administer support orders, garnishments, judgments, etc.

·         Other duties as assigned.


Required Knowledge/Skills/Job Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skill and Ability:

·         Experience processing payroll.

·         Strong math aptitude and ability to attend to detail.

·         Proven ability to handle multiple tasks.

·         Proficient with Microsoft Office, with emphasis on Excel and Word.
