The Blue Jackets Foundation Auction Intern must have the ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously with attention to detail in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities:

  • Focus on assisting the Blue Jackets Foundation with online in-game auctions.

  • Assist with managing auction inventory, ordering new pieces and brainstorming original auction items and experiences.
  • Help ensure auction items are displayed in a professional manner.
  • Actively assist CBJ fans in registering for online auction platform.

2016 - 2017 Season Blue Jackets Foundation Intern - Columbus Blue Jackets (Columbus, OH)

The Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation is dedicated to utilizing the unique resources of its professional athletes and coaches to improve the quality of life throughout the Central Ohio community.  The Foundation raises funds throughout the season and donates those funds back to local non-profit organizations. A primary focus is placed on its four pillars of giving including: pediatric cancer, education, children’s health & safety and youth & amateur hockey development.

Job Description: The intern will be expected to assist on key projects as assigned and take responsibility of daily activities as outlined by members of the Blue Jackets Foundation. In addition, the intern will be expected to attend all Columbus Blue Jackets home games, any after-hours programs, and any weekend special events. This is an unpaid internship that will give the student a great first-hand experience from the world of sports.

Key Projects and Responsibilities:

  • Game Nights - required to work all game nights. Duties will include assisting the Blue Jackets Foundation with in-game fundraising efforts (kiosk merchandise sales, 50/50 raffle and in-game auctions).

2016 - 2017 Season Broadcasting Intern - Columbus Blue Jackets (Columbus, OH)

Summary:

Assist the Director of Broadcasting with various production and administrative duties.

Responsibilities:

Game nights:

  • Ability to utilize recording device to obtain post-game interviews to be played back in radio post-game show.
  • Ability to edit and post-game day highlights and post-game interviews to Blue Jackets social media outlets and podcast channels.
  • Assist broadcast talent (starting line-ups, intermission and post-game stats, escorting intermission guest to the home radio booth).
  • Set up headset outside of Blue Jackets dressing room. Check all microphones outside of the booth (dressing room, press conference podium, between the benches).

Non-game days:          

  • Write and produce our weekly radio feature (Blue Jackets Weekly) that will be distributed to affiliate stations on the Blue Jackets Radio Network.  Would provide him or her experience in working with CBJ on-air talent, interacting with players and coaches, honing writing and scripting skills, working under a deadline.
  • Produce Blue Jackets Plays of the Week (weekly feature that runs in the intermission of a game broadcast).
  • Produce NHL News and Notes (weekly segment that airs during an intermission).
  • Preparation of affiliate presentations and mailings.
  • Assist in projects within Broadcasting Department (fulfillment of radio network benefits and requests).
  • Develop and produce podcasting content for BlueJackets.com. Work with Website Manager to learn how to post audio to the Podcast page.                                                                                                                     

Education/ Experience:

  • Currently enrolled in a two or four year college or university. Broadcast Journalism, Mass Communications, or a similar major highly preferred.
  • Previous experience at the campus radio or TV station, or a prior internship at a commercial/university broadcast outlet is preferred.
  • Knowledge of editing software like Adobe Audition is required.
  • Must have good communication skills, knowledge of hockey and the Blue Jackets.

2016 - 2017 Season Community Relations Intern - Columbus Blue Jackets (Columbus, OH)

The Community Relations department was created to serve as the team’s liaison to the community through a variety of outreach programs in Franklin County and its contiguous counties. The department will strive to place players, staff, and the mascot in the community to keep the team “top of mind” and make the public feel like a part of the team through its grassroots efforts.

Under the direction of the Education & Community Partnerships Manager, the Community Relations Intern helps execute a community relations strategy that aligns with the overall Blue Jackets business goals and objectives, to include relationship-building, communicating and program execution related to charitable, corporate, goodwill, fan and business partnerships, and with the community at-large.

The Event Services Intern will be responsible for assisting with the day to day operations of the Nationwide Arena Event Services Department, as well as set-up and coordination of all arena events. The intern will be responsible for assisting with both back-of-house and front-of-house for each event in order to gain industry work experience.

Primarily a game day position, the Game Operation Intern will assist with live entertainment and promotional elements during Blue Jackets home games. They will take direction from the Event Presentation Manager on many of the following items: managing the Promotion Teams; meeting with and conducting run-throughs with live entertainment (anthem singers, color guards, bands, etc.); cueing timeout and intermission activities and special recognitions and ceremonies; ensuring that all items needed for the game are prepped; maintaining an open line of communication during the game with Manager and Game Operations Director.

Expectations

2016 - 2017 Season Premium Services Intern - Columbus Blue Jackets (Columbus, OH)

This position will assist the service staff of the Corporate Development Department. The intern’s primary responsibilities will relate to the service of the suite, loge box, and terrace table accounts. The intern will be expected to assist with daily activities as outlined by the Premium Seating Specialist, as well as work for a majority of Columbus Blue Jackets home games and Nationwide Arena concerts/events. Hours and schedule will vary depending on the number of games and other events each week. The intern and Premium Seating Specialist will work together to determine weekly hours.

Daily Office Responsibilities:

  • Ticket order fulfillments and mailings for games and concerts (will receive training on Ticketmaster Archtics software).
  • Prepare spreadsheet for each game and concert/event of all suites, loges, and terrace tables.
  • Update client contact information and other documents as needed.

Game Day and Game Night Responsibilities:

  • Perform a full suite/club walk through to check for cleanliness, maintenance issues, and overall appearance each game day.
  • Assist Premium Seating Specialist in fulfilling game night experiences for premium clients such as: taking a scratched player to a suite for pictures/autographs, escorting guests to a radio booth or production room visit or Zamboni ride, and/or fulfilling and following up on any other pre-planned special experiences.
  • Ensure that all above-mentioned game night experiences are documented through photo or video and see that the appropriate client receives photo or video.
  • Communicate with other departments such as Guest Services, DNC Sportservice, Maintenance, Housekeeping, and Engineering as needed to report any guest, food and beverage, or building issues that arise.
  • Assist Partnership Activaiton Specialist with sponsorship fulfillment assets when needed.

Key Projects:

  • Sorting and delivery of season tickets: Intern will work with the Premium Seating Specialist to prepare ticket booklets specific to each clients’ ticket plan. Intern will also assist with ticket delivery as needed.
  • Suite Tasting Event and Opening Night Reception: Intern will attend meetings related to the planning of the annual suite tasting event and opening night reception and perform duties according to the timelines created by the Premium Seating Specialist. Duties will include: tracking RSVP’s and preparing guest lists; assisting with and obtaining the décor of the events; assisting with the actual set-up of the events.

Education and/or Experience

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of basic computer hardware.  Experience with desktop and server operating systems including Windows 7, Windows 10 and Mac OS X.  Extensive application support experience, particularly with Microsoft Office.  Ability to analyze and solve technical problems by investigating potential solutions using various troubleshooting skills.

Facility Operations/Security: Usher/Ticket Taker
Ticket Seller - CBJ Arena Management/ Nationwide Arena (Columbus, OH)

Summary

Assist guests in the purchase and pick-up of tickets for all Nationwide Arena events while maintaining high customer service standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Sells tickets to guests using the Ticketmaster ticketing system.

Uses ticket dispensing machine that automatically ejects numbers of tickets requested by guests and hand ticket to guests.

Distributes Will Call tickets to guests.

Accepts payment and makes change when appropriate.

Answers incoming Box Office phone calls.

Answers questions, and provides information concerning upcoming events.                                                     
Prepares reconciliation of ticket sales at conclusion of each evening.

Due to the nature of the job, this position requires working evening and weekend hours.
