Job Purpose: The intern will assist the Marketing and Fan Development departments with the planning and implementation of all in-market grassroots events as well as in-arena events including the data collection efforts and post event data input. The intern will also assist with in-market partnership activation research.

 

 Primary Responsibilities:

·         Assist with Game Night Promotions

·         Coordinate set-up and teardown of game night concourse activities

2014 - 2015 Season TV Production Intern - Columbus Blue Jackets (Columbus, OH)

Job Purpose: Create video web content for Jackets TV on BlueJackets.com

Responsibilities:

  • Game Days: Daily practice reports: shoot and edit video at the CBJ morning skate and the visiting team practice. Work with CBJ broadcast talent to shoot and later edit a pre-game package previewing that night's game.  Post-game production: Shoot and edit locker room interviews and post on website.
  • Non-Game Days: Shoot non-game day interviews or features with broadcasters or players. Later edit and post video on Jackets TV. Produce various feature videos centering on activities with the players, coaching staff and Blue Jackets departments (Community Development, Fan Development, Hockey Operations, etc.). Help develop scripting, production requirements (camera set-up, lighting, micing, etc.) prior to shoot date. Develop additional videa content ideas to be produced and posted on Jackets TV (BlueJackets.com) with direction and support of digital media and marketing team.

Requirements:

  • His or her major should be focused in broadcast journalism, mass communications, radio/television or similar career pursuit.
  • Classroom or hands-on experience with operating cameras, lighting systems, editing systems (non-linear systems like Avid, Final Cut, or Adobe Premiere), audio, scripting, etc.
  • Must have good verbal and written communications skills.
  • Knowledge and enthusiasm for the game of ice hockey and the Columbus Blue Jackets.
  • Must be able to react under pressure and meet deadlines.

Required Hours: Game days 10am - 1pm; Game nights 6pm - 11pm. Non-Game Day hours will be required for shooting and editing larger video projects and will be determined on a week by week basis.

2014 - 2015 Season Ticket Sales Intern - Columbus Blue Jackets (Columbus, OH)

Job Purpose: The Columbus Blue Jackets are seeking a passionate and hardworking individual who is committed to becoming a sales professional. Our ticket sales internship program is designed for students who want to gain first-hand experience on the front lines of a professional sports team.  Under the direction of the sales leadership team, the intern will assist in all aspects of the Ticket Sales and Service department including sales training, event preparation and execution, database collection, etc. The internship will also gain experience in other areas such as marketing, promotions, and operations as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in sales training sessions.
  • Manage ticket sales department inventory including giveaway and autographed items.
  • Help with the preparation and execution of the ticket sales events.
  • Work all season ticket holder events as well as events that support ticket sales initiatives.
  • Database collection, input and management.
  • Assist  in mailings and fulfillment.
  • Assist leadership team, sales team members, and other departments as needed.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Ticket Sales Coordinator.

Requirements:

  • Junior or Senior (preferably) with a Sports Management or Business Administration major.
  • Ability to work on average 25 to 30 hours a week in addition to game days.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel and Word.
  • Detailed oriented.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.

Administration/General Management: Administrative/Executive Assistant
Building Administrative Assistant - CBJ Arena Management (Columbus, OH)

This position provides administrative and project support for management staff of Nationwide Arena and CBJAM personnel.  Provides direct office and related support to the General Manager and Assistant General Manager of Nationwide Arena.

Coordinates daily office functions.  Coordinates staff schedules, small event scheduling and conference rooms. Maintains calendars, appointments, and coordinates meetings.  Coordinates onboarding, professional development, staff enrichment, and other functions.  Assists with event relations and building improvement initiatives.  Maintains files, records, and reports.  Maintains budget recording, payroll and report analysis.  Participates in leadership team initiatives and overall building and event related functions.

 

Experience required /desired

Bachelors Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.  1-3 years experience in an office or multi-purpose event center. Experience with PC and Microsoft applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint required.  Experience with desktop publishing products, Adobe (Photoshop and Illustrator), inventory control and CAD desired.  Excellent writing and verbal skills desired with a demonstrated proficiency in preparing reports and presentations.  Ability to work long and unusual hours, with a flexible work schedule which sometimes may include nights, weekends, and holidays. Ability to work and interact with a diverse work force, customers and various levels of management.  Willingness to work in a team environment.  Must possess a valid driver’s license.  Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities with minimal instruction.

 

Summary of Duties: 

70%       Performs administrative support duties and creates correspondence. Interfaces communications with security, food and beverage provider, and the Blue Jackets organization. Maintains files and records.  Performs project work and tracks and analyzes work completed, response time, cost reporting and assigns work as needed. Prepares presentations and drafts presentation materials.  Assists in budget recording, analysis, and preparing reports.  Provides event support and fulfills various event relation and improvement initiatives. Performs quality control work and building inspections.  Assists General Manager with various functions.

20%     Assists in payroll reporting, onboarding, and training of staff.  Assists in scheduling of staff and tasks.  Schedules and assists in coordinating needs for meetings and small events.  Maintains and schedules appointment calendars for key personnel. Manages staff enrichment and professional development programs and creates new employee initiatives.  Prepares agendas, meeting minutes, and related materials.

10%     Orders related supplies and maintains inventory.  Assists various departments with administrative and event related needs.  Provides back-up for CBJAM receptionist as required.  Other duties as assigned.

Facility Operations/Security: Maintenance
Changeover Worker - CBJ Arena Management (Columbus, OH)

Responsible for the planning, and physical set-up and tear down of events and meetings as needed at the Arena.  Performs inspections on all completed work.  Responsible for the condition, cleanliness, and maintenance and repair of all related areas and equipment.  Assists Changeover Manager with the implementation of facility rules, regulations, policies and procedures in related to the changeover crew.  Supervises part time and temporary labor.  Ensures assigned details of event resume information are satisfactorily completed.  Works with the Changeover Manager to coordinate all needs with other departments, team, and show related contractors to ensure all event and building related needs are accommodated.  Provides clear, concise, and timely communication of directives and changeover needs to other departments. Provides general support to Operations Department by accomplishing various related tasks including cleaning, snow removal, repair and maintenance, and other tasks as assigned.  Adheres to OSHA and other applicable safety rules and requirements.  Demonstrates the leadership necessary to assume duties of Changeover Manager when said person is absent via illness, vacation, or etc.

 

Summary of Duties: 

70%       Assists in all event set ups and conversions.  Supervises staff in successful completion of all changeovers and event set ups.  Inspects all work and makes corrections as needed.  Inspects all work areas and storage areas and maintains all areas to the established cleanliness standard.  Inspects and inventories all tools and equipment and ensures that all are accounted for, safe, and in good working order.  Performs needed maintenance and repairs and works with Maintenance and Engineering staff as support.  Covers building shifts and supervises crews as assigned.  Inspects assigned area for damages, needed repairs, and required project work.  Works closely with the Event Department to ensure that all event related set up needs are accommodated to their satisfaction.

25%     Performs cleaning and janitorial tasks as assigned.  Performs needed maintenance and repairs and completes projects as assigned. Assists as needed in grounds maintenance including landscape, snow removal, and parking garage maintenance.

5%       Assists in scheduling, hiring, and training part time staff.  Assists in task lists, job assignments, and project planning. Other duties as assigned.

 

Experience required /desired

 High School diploma required.  Associated Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.  1-3 years supervisory experience.  Experience in custodial and building maintenance.  Knowledge of the various event related equipment used in Arena changeovers including:  chairs, seating risers, staging, barriers and barricades, hockey dashers and equipment, basketball floors, and other similar equipment.  Knowledge of common tools used in carpentry, custodial, landscape and warehouse operations.  Must be able to operate various types of mechanical equipment including, but not limited to:  forklifts, scissor and boom lifts, power tools, housekeeping equipment, and etc.  Forklift certification.  Ability to prioritize and to handle multiple projects simultaneously.   Ability to lift 100 pounds and push 100 pounds on wheels.  Ability to stoop, bend, walk and handle equipment on ice.  Ability to work long and unusual hours, with a flexible work schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays. Ability to work and interact with a large and diverse work force and customers and various levels of management.  Willingness to work in a team environment.  Must possess a valid driver’s license.  Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities with minimal instruction.  Ability to provide clear, concise, and timely communication directives. Manager of Advertising & Creative Services - Columbus Blue Jackets (Columbus, OH)

The Manager of Advertising and Creative Services will provide leadership and subject matter expertise in advertising and creative services related matters for the organization.  The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and executing advertising campaigns for the organization which include both internal and external media assets.  This person will be responsible for coordinating all tasks related to each campaign with internal staff and external partners to ensure that all goals and objectives are met within stated deadlines.  This person will maintain a unified brand message across all different media outlets and internal departments.  The Manager of Advertising and Creative Services will be expected to research current advertising trends and conduct surveys in order to make recommendations on advertising strategies and campaigns to  increase ticket sales, enhance awareness and brand image

The successful candidate will be a forward thinking and open minded individual who will be expected to work closely with a variety of people across the organization as well as external partners including advertising agencies, production companies, media outlets, etc.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Development and execution of   advertising campaigns using internal and external assets to drive ticket sales, engage fans and enhance the brand image of the Columbus Blue Jackets
  • Direct advertising and collateral creative including television, radio, out-of-home, in-arena, e-mail, web, print, collateral design, e-brochure and premium items
  • Plan and manage annual advertising budget in a manner that most effectively and efficiently deploys the organization’s resources to achieve the stated goals and objectives
  • Plan, coordinate and prepare all live announcer read drop-ins and in-arena announcements including the creation of scripts and associated graphics
  • Oversee the development and production of  sales and marketing collateral materials
  • Oversee and approve all graphic design requests from all departments within the organization  to ensure consistent world class brand presentation for the organization
  • Conduct and analyze market research for the purpose of developing and executing the advertising strategy for the organization
  • Responsible for working closely with an outside media buying and planning agency to manage advertising placements and delivery of creative to appropriate media outlets
  • Interface with a variety of departments in developing, implementing and analyzing sales and marketing campaigns
  • Work closely with colleagues in the Corporate Partnership, Community Relations and Marketing departments on the development and execution of creative needs related to partner activation initiatives including retail promotions,  product sampling, sweepstakes, premium items and cause marketing initiatives
  • Work closely with the Digital Marketing department on e-marketing initiatives including website and social media creative needs, online promotions and analyzing data to determine the effectiveness of such initiatives and to identify new opportunities to grow sales, enhance brand image and/or grow the organization’s database
  • Manage and update style guides and design standards as needed
  • Work with the Vice President, Marketing to ensure organizational adherence to established  standards and guidelines related to use of the official team marks and approved style guide and design standards
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with all media outlets and promotional partners
  • Serve as the direct supervisor for members of the graphic design team.
  • Responsible for the recruitment, hiring and professional development of the graphic design team.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and /or other departments to implement creative requests related to NHL initiatives in the local market such as NHL All-Star Weekend and various cause marketing initiatives.

   

Required Knowledge/Skills/Job Qualifications:

  • 5 years or more of experience in marketing, advertising and project management with a minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience on either the client or agency side of the business.
  • Media buying and planning experience preferred
  • Experience in managing creative output – from concept to production
  • Experience in areas of digital marketing, data collection and lead generation
  • Bachelor Degree required
  • Solid strategic and tactical experience in managing an organization’s advertising activities
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver  presentations to executive management team
  • Enthusiastic, creative and results oriented leader with a proven ability to develop, coach and motivate people , drive projects and manage project teams
  • Strong knowledge of Central Ohio market preferred
