Facility Operations/Security: Maintenance
Building Engineer Assistant - CBJ Arena Management (Columbus, OH)

Maintains in good working condition all facility equipment including HVAC, plumbing and electrical plants, lighting and climate control systems, roofing systems, telecommunications, fire-life/safety systems, and maintenance/cleaning equipment. Operates systems (HVAC, lighting, etc.) as needed. Troubleshoots and repairs plumbing and mechanical malfunctions and performs required PM. Follows developed maintenance and scheduling program to ensure the facility is properly maintained to ensure safety of patrons. Works with staff on all new installations. Assists in safety codes. Position requires working with heights. Subject to emergency calls.

Experience required /desired

HVAC/plumbing certification/licensing required within 2 years of hiring. Willingness to work in a team environment. Proficient with the use of a personal computer; familiar with the use of the Microsoft Office products. Position requires heavy lifting, climbing, carrying, stooping, crawling and equipment operation. This position requires work both indoors and out and is subject to adverse conditions. Ability to prioritize and to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Good written, verbal and interpersonal skills required; ability to interact with all levels of staff including management. Ability to work irregular/extended hours, including night and weekend duties is required.

Summary of Duties: 

50%     Performs minor and major repair of all facility systems and equipment. Inspects systems throughout facility to detect malfunctions or breakdowns. Investigates malfunctions or breakdowns of systems to diagnose causes and locate the source of the problem & implements corrective actions and solutions. Assists Engineers with anticipated potential malfunctions or breakdowns and takes appropriate action to prevent or minimize curtailment of services. Performs preventive maintenance procedures on building mechanical equipment on a scheduled basis; inspects belts, checks fluid levels, replaces filters, greases bearings, seals, etc.; repairs or replaces broken parts. Completes daily, weekly and monthly checklists on building equipment maintenance procedures and maintains records of scheduled maintenance procedures Follows procedures for use of Work Orders and CMMS systems. Cleans and inspects boilers, chillers, and heat exchangers; monitors water treatment program to ensure compliance.

40%     Assists Engineers with calibration and repairs of DDC and pneumatic systems. Assists with the installation of electrical wiring and equipment; new electrical services, wiring during remodeling projects; replaces and repairs wiring as directed. Assists with repair of electrical equipment and control circuits; assists with replacement of faulty electrical switches; assists with repair of refrigeration equipment. May repair electrical locks and control panels to maintain building security. Operates auxiliary supply systems when a breakdown occurs. Assist with shutdown and start-ups of utilities when conditions require it.

10%     Adheres to OSHA, NFPA and other applicable safety codes. Performs outside custodial duties such as snow removal as required. Responds to emergency maintenance requests as required. Other duties may be assigned.

Corporate Development & Marketing Internship - Summer 2015 - Columbus Blue Jackets (Columbus, OH)

The Corporate Development/Marketing Intern will split their time between the Corporate Development team and the Blue Jackets Marketing department.  The Corporate Development component will be focused on assisting the department in research on industry best practices, competitive landscape, demographics and identifying new prospects.  The Corporate Development sales team will use this information in targeting prospective new sponsorship partners and creating new sponsorship packages.  The Marketing component will be focused on working community events throughout Central Ohio to promote the Blue Jackets brand along with assisting that department on projects as needed.   

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research on sponsorship best practices and maintain a database with this information.
  • Present findings in best practices research to Corporate Development Department on a regular basis.
  • Manage Excel databases and contests housing information collected from sponsored in-market promotions.
  • Identify key prospects based on matching customer demographics with the Blue Jackets fan demographics.
  • Update demographic information for all categories of Blue Jackets fans including attendees, TV viewers and radio listeners.
  • Assist the Sales Coordinator with market research for sponsorship proposals.
  • Complete projects that will assist the Director of Corporate Development Services and VP of Corporate Development with strategic planning for the department.
  • Other special projects as assigned.

The Event Services Intern will be responsible for assisting with the day to day operations of Nationwide Arena, Event Services Department, as well as set-up and coordination of all arena events. Video Production Internship - Summer 2015 - Columbus Blue Jackets (Columbus, OH)

Create video web content for Jackets TV on BlueJackets.com

Responsibilities:

Training camp:

Assist with producing daily reports that cover a different angle of the preparation for the season each day. These reports will include b-roll, interviews and stand-ups with the help of a CBJ broadcaster.

Game days:

Daily practice reports: Shoot and edit video at the CBJ morning skate and the visiting team practice. Work with CBJ broadcast talent to shoot and later edit a pre-game package previewing that night's game.

Post-game production: Shoot and edit locker room interviews and post on website.

Non-game days:

- Shoot non-game day interviews or features with broadcasters or players. Later edit and post video on Jackets TV.

- Produce various feature videos centering on activities with the players, coaching staff and Blue Jackets departments (Community Development, Fan Development, Hockey Operations, etc). Help develop scripting, production requirements (camera set-up, lighting, micing, etc) prior to shoot date.

- Develop additional video content ideas to be produced and posted on Jackets TV (BlueJackets.com) with direction and support of the digital media and marketing team.

                                                                                                            

Requirements:

This internship requires the candidate to have a specific goal of someday working in television or video production fields. His or her major needs to be in Broadcast Journalism, Mass Communications, Radio/Television or a similar career pursuit.  Ideal candidate will have prior classroom or hands-on experience with operating cameras, lighting systems, editing systems (non-linear systems like Avid, Final Cut or Adobe Premiere), audio, scripting, etc.  Must have good communication skills, knowledge of hockey and the Blue Jackets, and be able to react under pressure and meet deadlines.

Non-gameday hours will be required for shooting and editing larger video projects and be determined a week by week basis.
