2014 - 2015 Season Marketing Intern - Columbus Blue Jackets (Columbus, OH)

Job Purpose: The intern will assist the Marketing and Fan Development departments with the planning and implementation of all in-market grassroots events as well as in-arena events including the data collection efforts and post event data input. The intern will also assist with in-market partnership activation research.

 Primary Responsibilities:

·         Assist with Game Night Promotions

·         Coordinate set-up and teardown of game night concourse activities

·         Assist with game night and in-market amateur hockey initiatives

·         Data collection and input

·         Event planning and execution

·         Execution of Ohio High School State Ice Hockey Championship Weekend

·         In-market partnership activation research

·         Other tasks as assigned


·         Available to work 20-25 hours a week, with the ability to work nights/weekends

·         Interest in Marketing

·         Excellent communication skills

·         Strong computer skills with experience in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel

2014 - 2015 Season TV Production Intern - Columbus Blue Jackets (Columbus, OH)

Job Purpose: Create video web content for Jackets TV on


  • Game Days: Daily practice reports: shoot and edit video at the CBJ morning skate and the visiting team practice. Work with CBJ broadcast talent to shoot and later edit a pre-game package previewing that night's game.  Post-game production: Shoot and edit locker room interviews and post on website.
  • Non-Game Days: Shoot non-game day interviews or features with broadcasters or players. Later edit and post video on Jackets TV. Produce various feature videos centering on activities with the players, coaching staff and Blue Jackets departments (Community Development, Fan Development, Hockey Operations, etc.). Help develop scripting, production requirements (camera set-up, lighting, micing, etc.) prior to shoot date. Develop additional videa content ideas to be produced and posted on Jackets TV ( with direction and support of digital media and marketing team.


  • His or her major should be focused in broadcast journalism, mass communications, radio/television or similar career pursuit.
  • Classroom or hands-on experience with operating cameras, lighting systems, editing systems (non-linear systems like Avid, Final Cut, or Adobe Premiere), audio, scripting, etc.
  • Must have good verbal and written communications skills.
  • Knowledge and enthusiasm for the game of ice hockey and the Columbus Blue Jackets.
  • Must be able to react under pressure and meet deadlines.

Required Hours: Game days 10am - 1pm; Game nights 6pm - 11pm. Non-Game Day hours will be required for shooting and editing larger video projects and will be determined on a week by week basis.

Accepted candidates will be notified the week of November 3rd.


-          Meet or exceed weekly and monthly sales goals.

-          Sell Columbus Blue Jackets ticket options including season ticket plans, group tickets and individual events.

-          Build relationships to grow account base through repeat business and referrals.

-          Conduct in-arena appointments/tours to assist in closing new business.

-          Proactively look for ways to create incremental business opportunities with existing customers.

-          Provide superior customer service to clients – existing ticket holders, prospects and single game buyers.

-          Make cold calls from provided lists.

-          Handle incoming calls from sales prospects and existing clients.

-          Maintain complete and accurate computerized records of all clients.

-          Actively research and prospect new sales leads.

-          Create new ideas to increase ticket sale.

-          Work games and other events to support ticket sales initiatives.

-          Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Director of New Business Development.

- BS/BA in Business, Sport Management/Marketing, or similar area of study
- Aggressive, competitive and committed to the sports industry

Facility Operations/Security: Maintenance
Maintenance Supervisor - CBJ Arena Management (Columbus, OH)

Supervises and participates in maintaining in good working condition related facility furniture, fixtures, equipment, plumbing and associated structures on a daily basis and for all events presented at or by Nationwide Arena.  Supervises and participates in construction and carpentry projects.  Troubleshoots and repairs plumbing and related malfunctions and performs required preventive maintenance.  Follows developed maintenance and scheduling programs to ensure the facility is properly maintained to ensure safety of patrons.  Works with staff on all new installations.  Assists in general building upkeep, maintenance, event set up and cleaning.  Works closely with engineering, changeover, housekeeping, and security departments to make sure all needs are met.  Works with Director of Maintenance and Engineering to ensure all team and event related needs are met.  Adheres to OHSA, NFPA, and other applicable safety codes.  Position requires working with heights, confined spaces, heavy lifting, climbing, carrying, stooping, crawling, and equipment operation.  This position requires work both indoors and out and is subject to adverse conditions, and may be subject to long and unusual hours as well as emergency calls.

Experience required

 Associates degree in facility management or related field or 1-2 years vocational schooling in building maintenance courses (plumbing, carpentry, heating, ventilation, electrical, mechanical, etc) preferred.  Knowledge of methods, principles and practices in operating and maintaining a multipurpose arena desired.  2-5 years in building maintenance and repair operations.  Combination of education and experience. Progressive supervisory experience a plus. Forklift certification.  Strong written, verbal, and computer skills and the ability to work with multiple user groups, contractors, full and part time labor staff.  Ability to develop and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and schematics.  Willingness to work in a team environment.  Must possess a valid driver’s license.  Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities with minimal instruction.

This position is responsible for assisting the Ticket Operations Department in all aspects of operations for the Columbus Blue Jackets and affiliated properties.
