2017 Summer Fan Development Intern - Columbus Blue Jackets (Columbus, OH)

Overview

The Columbus Blue Jackets are seeking an energetic individual who is enthusiastic and committed to promoting fan development and community programs to grow the game of hockey in Central Ohio. This position will be expected to assist on key projects as assigned and take responsibility of daily activities as outlined by supervisor. Summer initiatives to include: street hockey clinics, Hockey School, Blue Jackets Learn to Play, Stinger’s Power Play Challenge school assemblies, and community festivals. This internship will give the student a great first-hand experience (and portfolio materials) from the world of sports.

Duties and tasks:

  • Hockey Clinics – provide administrative preparation and on-site support for street/ice hockey clinics and events in the community.
  • Summer/School Year Education Programs - responsible for assisting education manager in activating and marketing of all summer and school year educational programming.
  • Special Event Assistance provide support to Foundation/Community Relations department around summer special events, including NHL Draft Party, Foundation Golf Classic, and mascot events and appearances.

Learning Objectives:

  • Knowledge and understanding of event planning.
  • Understanding of basic guest relations techniques.
  • Knowledge and understanding of database management.
  • Knowledge and understanding of fan development strategies.

 Intern Benefits:

  • 20-25 intern hours available each week, plus community events/appearances

 Requirements:

  • Must be enrolled in a college or university with an emphasis on sports management, kinesiology, or education.
  • Previous experience working with children of all ages is preferred.
  • Hockey experience and/or skating skills recommended but not necessary.
  • Basic knowledge in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel). 
  • Flexibility and willingness to work both traditional and non-traditional office hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays.

CBJ Mobile Tour Team (Part Time) - Columbus Blue Jackets (Columbus, OH)

Summary

The CBJ Mobile Tour Team member will serve as an integral part of the Columbus Blue Jackets efforts to bring the fun and excitement of the game of hockey to cities across Ohio. This position will be responsible for assisting in all aspects of the CBJ Mobile Summer Tour including setup and teardown. This person should have a dynamic and outgoing personality with the ability to engage our target audience and must also promote the Columbus Blue Jackets’ brand and sales messaging with positive energy and professionalism.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Assist with set-up of mobile marketing vehicle at community events. Includes loading and unloading equipment to and from off-site event locations such as fairs, festivals, concerts, etc. Equipment includes a replica locker room, TVs, video games, lounge area materials such as flooring, couches, tables, chairs, skee-puck game and street hockey equipment.

Responsible for staffing the CBJ Mobile Tour vehicle and sales tent and assist fans with any questions or concerns they may have.

Maintain CBJ Mobile Tour vehicle (stocking promotional items, cleaning/organizing vehicle)

Responsible for data capture and recruiting people to sign up for Enter to Win opportunities.

This seasonal position will last throughout the CBJ Mobile Tour, May – September.

Housekeeping Assistant (Part Time) - Columbus Blue Jackets Arena Management (Columbus, OH)

Summary

Perform routine custodial work, minor maintenance, and repair work in the cleaning and upkeep of Nationwide Arena.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Responsible for the condition and cleanliness of spaces as assigned, which includes specialty locker rooms, restrooms, meeting rooms, and office space.

Disinfect rooms includes sweeping, mopping, dusting, trash removal, vacuuming, stocking glass cleaning, spot cleaning, carpet cleaning, wall washing and floor refinishing.

Performs bowl cleaning work which may include policing of liquids, sweeping of trash, and mopping of all seating areas.

Operate specialty equipment such as scrubbers, floor cleaners, vacuums, carpet cleaning machines, KaiVac restroom cleaning machines, etc.

Assists in oversight of contractor event and post clean work. Inspects work and redirects workers as needed.

Performs recovery-cleaning tasks as scheduled.

Operations Changeover Crew (Part-Time) - Columbus Blue Jackets Arena Management (Columbus, OH)

Department: Operations

Supervisor: General Operations Supervisor

Location: Columbus, Ohio

Summary

Under general supervision, this position assists with maintenance and providing labor to prepare Nationwide Arena for hockey games or other events.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

Assists with converting Nationwide Arena from one function to another, including set-up and disassembly of stage equipment, hockey glass, ice floor covering, dasherboards, meeting rooms, concourse set-ups, dressing rooms, concert floor chairs, and other event-related equipment.

Assist in the configuration of arena bowl seating and rails.

Assists with fixing seats, grounds clean-up, snow removal, etc. 
Perform cleaning and maintenance on operations department equipment, keeping work areas and equipment organized and functional.

Follows all safety precautions and emergency procedures established at the facility; reports safety and damage concerns to the manager.


Work extended and/or irregular hours including nights, weekends and holidays as needed (schedule will be based on event schedules, staffing needs and employee availability).
