Job Purpose: Assist the Director of Broadcasting with various production and administrative duties.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Ability to utilize mini-disc recorder to obtain post-game interviews to be played back in radio post-game show.
  • Assist in set-up of post-game show.
  • Assist broadcast talent (starting line-ups, intermission, and post-game stats, excorting intermission guest to the home radio booth).
  • Assist the Director of Broadcasting in escorting network affiliate guests to and from the booth, specifically Affiliate Night in late September.
  • Ability to use audio editing software in home booth to record and playback wireless microphone audio when FSN mics a player or coach.
  • Writing and producing weekly radio feature (Blue Jackets Weekly) that will by distributed to affiliate stations on the Blue Jackets radio network.
  • Preparation of affiliate presentations and mailings.
  • Assist in projects within Broadcasting Department such as fulfillment of radio network benefits and requests.
  • Program and schedule audio content for exterior arena messaging.
  • Develop and produce podcasting content for bluejackets.com

Requirements:

  • Sophomore or above standing majoring in broadcast journalism, mass communications, or similar major.
  • Experience at the campus radio or TV station, or a prior internship at a commercial broadcast outlet is preferred.
  • Knowledge of editing software (i.e.: Adobe Audition) is required.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge for the game of ice hockey and the Columbus Blue Jackets.
  • Able to react under pressure.
  • Game night hours: 5:00pm to 10:30pm. Non-game day hours: 9:00am to 12:00pm or 12:00pm to 4pm. September through April.

2013 - 2014 Season Community Relations Intern - Columbus Blue Jackets (Columbus, OH)

Job Purpose: The Community Relations department was created to serve as the team's liaison to the community through a variety of outreach programs in Franklin County and its contiguous counties. The department will strive to place players, staff and the mascot in the community to keep the team "top of mind" and make the public feel like a part of the team through its grassroots efforts. Under the direction of the Community Relations Manager, the Community Relations Intern helps execute a community relations strategy that aligns with the overall Blue Jackets business goals and objectives, to goodwill, fan, business partnerships, and the community at-large.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate all monthly Columbus Blue Jackets merchandise donations including the database management/tracking of all requests, donation fulfillment, and inventory management.
  • Assist in the marketing of all school programs, organizations of player and mascot appearances associated with the program, and fulfillment of reward packages.
  • Provide support for players wives/spouses projects and initiatives.
  • Assist in the distribution of tickets and gifts to players' chosen beneficiaries and facilitate in-game experiences.
  • Required to work all game nights. Duties will include assisting with the execution of all community relations in-game initiatives as well as working the Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation Kiosk to raise money through a silent auction, raffle, etc.
  • Provide support to the Manager of the Foundation Programs and Initiatives at all major events including, but not limited to, the Golf Classic, Hockey Fights Cancer Night, and Black Tie Blue Jackets Style Show.
  • Assist as needed with team events such as Fanfest.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in college or recently graduated with an emphasis on communication, business administration, or sports management.
  • Minimum 3 to 4 days per week in the office (9:00am to 5:00pm) plus all home games and community events/appearances.

Job Purpose: The Event Service intern will be responsible for assisting with the day to day operations, of Nationwide Arena, Event Services Department, as well as set-up and coordination of all arena events. Intern will be responsible for assisting with both back- and front-of-house for each event and will get ample experience on both sides.

2013 - 2014 Season Full Time Game Operations Internship - Columbus Blue Jackets (Columbus, OH)

Primarily a game day position for the 2013 and 2014 season. The Game Operations Intern will assist with live entertainment and promotional elements during Blue Jackets home games. They will take direction from the Event Presentation Manager on many of the following items: managing the Promotion Teams, meeting with and conducting run-throughs with live entertainment (anthem singers, color guards, bands, etc.), cueing timeout and intermission activities, ensuring that all items needed for the game are prepped, maintaining an open line of communication during the game with Manager and Game Operations Director.

Term of internship: August 2013 - April 2014 (or through Playoffs)

Primary Office Responsibilities:                                          
(2 days a week, 6 hours)

  • Review game script with Game Operations Staff
  • Prepare game day materials i.e.: Promo teams scripts, blimp log, promotional contestants form, promotional waivers, prizing elements, intermission diagrams, game day memos for live entertainment, Zamboni riders.

Primary Game Day Responsibilities:                                  
(2 - 3 days a week, 14 - 21 hours)

  • Prepare Promo Team rooms
  • Assist with Promo Team script meetings
  • Oversee Promo Team prop and prizing preparation
  • Attend Production meeting

2013 - 2014 Season Premium Sales & Service Intern - Columbus Blue Jackets (Columbus, OH)

Availability: Late August/ Early September 2013 to April 2014 (or through playoffs)

Job Purpose: this position will assist the sales and service staff of the Premium Seating Department. The intern's primary responsibilities will relate to the service of the suite, loge box, and terrace table accounts. The intern will be expected to assist with daily activities as outlined by the Premium Seating Specialist, as well as attend a majority of Columbus Blue Jackets home games and Nationwide Arena concerts or events. The intern will also attend meetings related to annual events including but not limited to: suite tasting, opening night reception, full team autograph session. Hours and schedule will vary depending on the number of games and other events each week. The intern and Premium Seating Specialist will work together to determine weekly hours.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Ticket order fulfillments and mailings - this includes games and concerts.
  • Prepare a listing for each game and concert/event of all suites, loges, and terrace tables with the name of the company and/or individual in each location.
  • Run attendance tracking report after games on Archtics (intern will receive training on Ticketmaster Archtics software).
  • Assist in managing the upkeep of suites (communicate with other departments as needed).
  • Update client contact information and other documents as needed.
  • Assist Director of Premium Sales and Service and Premium Sales Account Executive with any other needs.

Game Day and Game Night Responsibilities:

  • Perform a full suite walk through to check for cleanliness, maintenance issues, and overall appearance each game day.
  • Assist Premium Seating Specialist in fulfilling game night experiences for premium clients such as: taking a scratched player to a suite for pictures and/or autographs, escorting guests to a radio booth or production room visit or Zamboni ride, and/or fulfilling and following up on any other pre-planned special experiences.
  • Ensure that all above-mentioned game night experiences are documented through photo or video and see that the appropriate client receives photo or video.
  • Communicate with other departments such as Guest Services, DNC Sportservice, Maintenance, Housekeeping, and Engineering as needed to report any guest, food, and beverage, or building issues that arise.
  • Complete the "game day checklist" prepared by the Premium Seating Specialist relating to the duties mentioned above and more.
  • Prepare post-game reports for the Premium Seating Specialist detailing responsibilities performed, key clients met, and any issues that need to be dealt with.

Key Projects:

  • Sorting and delivery of season tickets: Intern will work with the Premium Seating Specialist to prepare ticket booklets specific to each clients' ticket plan. Intern will also assist with ticket delivery as needed.
  • Suite Tasting event and Opening Night Reception: Intern will attend meetings related to the planning of the annual suite tasting event and opening night reception and perform duties according to the timelines created by the Premium Seating Specialist. Duties will include: tracking RSVP's and preparing guest lists. assisting with and obtaining the decor of the events, and assisting the actual set-up of the events.
  • Game Nights: the intern will have many responsibilities relating to CBJ games and Nationwide Arena events. With the understanding that there will be some college-related conflicts, the intern will be expected to attend all games and events he or she is able.

2013 - 2014 Season TV Production Intern - Columbus Blue Jackets (Columbus, OH)

Availability: August/ September 2013 - April 2014 (or through playoffs)

Job Purpose: Create video web content for Jackets TV on BlueJackets.com

Responsibilities:

  • Game Days: Daily practice reports: shoot and edit video at the CBJ morning skate and the visiting team practice. Work with CBJ broadcast talent to shoot and later edit a pre-game package previewing that night's game.  Post-game production: Shoot and edit locker room interviews and post on website.
  • Non-Game Days: Shoot non-game day interviews or features with broadcasters or players. Later edit and post video on Jackets TV. Produce various feature videos centering on activities with the players, coaching staff and Blue Jackets departments (Community Development, Fan Development, Hockey Operations, etc.). Help develop scripting, production requirements (camera set-up, lighting, micing, etc.) prior to shoot date. Develop additional videa content ideas to be produced and posted on Jackets TV (BlueJackets.com) with direction and support of digital media and marketing team.

Requirements:

  • His or her major should be focused in broadcast journalism, mass communications, radio/television or similar career pursuit.
  • Classroom or hands-on experience with operating cameras, lighting systems, editing systems (non-linear systems like Avid, Final Cut, or Adobe Premiere), audio, scripting, etc.
  • Must have good verbal and written communications skills.
  • Knowledge and enthusiasm for the game of ice hockey and the Columbus Blue Jackets.
  • Must be able to react under pressure and meet deadlines.

Required Hours: Game days 10am - 1pm; Game nights 6pm - 11pm. Non-Game Day hours will be required for shooting and editing larger video projects and will be determined on a week by week basis.

Job Summary: This position will renew current group ticket accounts and will focus on prospecting and selling the full menu of Blue Jackets ticket packages, with a primary focus on group tickets, to new customers. This individual will continue to maintain the overall group ticket base and grow relationships with group leaders.
