2015-2016 Season Community Relations Intern - Columbus Blue Jackets (Columbus, OH)

The intern will be expected to assist on key projects as assigned and take responsibility of daily activities as outlined by members of the community relations department.

The Community Relations Intern must have the ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously with attention to detail in a fast-paced environment. The intern is also required to be able to work independently to perform assigned tasks. Exceptional listening skills, as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills, are a must.  High standards of courtesy, performance, agreeableness, and integrity are necessary. High levels of professionalism are required as the position involves interaction with high-profile athletes, coaching staff, and team management. 

In addition, the intern will be expected to attend all Columbus Blue Jackets home games, any after-hours programs, and any weekend special events. This internship will give the student a great first-hand experience (and portfolio materials) from the world of sports.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Implementation:

  • Donations- coordinate all monthly CBJ merchandise donations including the database management/tracking of all requests, donation fulfillment, and inventory management.
  • Book Jackets and Education Programs - responsible for assisting in marketing of all school programs, organization of player and mascot appearances associated with the program, and fulfillment of reward packages.
  • School Assembly – assist the education & community partnerships manger with program promotion, coordinate with schools prior to visit and collect feedback post assembly.

Game Nights and Events:

  • Game Nights - required to work all game nights. Duties will include assisting with the execution of all community relations in-game initiatives as well as working the CBJ Foundation Kiosk to raise money through a silent auction, raffle, etc.
  • Foundation Initiatives and Fundraisers- provide support to the Blue Jackets Foundation at all major events including, but not limited, the Golf Classic, Hockey Fights Cancer Night and annual fundraising gala.
  • Team Initiatives/Events- assist as needed with team events such as Fanfest.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Currently enrolled in college or recently graduated with an emphasis on communication, business administration, or sports management.
  • Schedule: Minimum of 3 – 4 days per week in the office (9 am – 5 pm) plus all home games and community events/appearances.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Knowledge of Photoshop a plus.

Summary:

The Corporate Development intern(s) will primarily assist the Partnership Account Specialist staff with the fulfillment of sponsorship assets.  Intern(s) will work on projects in the office in addition to game night responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform game night tasks related to fulfillment of sponsorship assets.
  • Photograph sponsorship assets during games for use in year-end partner recaps.
  • Manage Excel databases for media affidavits, in-game tracking, and in-market promotions.

Summary:

The Digital & Social Media Intern will assist in maximizing awareness of the Columbus Blue Jackets digital space. Using assets and information provided by the Digital Marketing Department, the Digital & Social Media Intern, drawing on his or her knowledge of social networks and online marketing to enhance and grow enthusiastic end-user communities. 2015-2016 Season Premium Services Intern - Columbus Blue Jackets (Columbus, OH)

Summary:

This position will assist the service staff of the Premium Seating Department. The intern’s primary responsibilities will relate to the service of the suite, loge box, and terrace table accounts. The intern will be expected to assist with daily activities as outlined by the Premium Seating Specialist, as well as work for a majority of Columbus Blue Jackets home games and Nationwide Arena concerts/events. Hours and schedule will vary depending on the number of games and other events each week. The intern and Premium Seating Specialist will work together to determine weekly hours.

Daily Office Responsibilities:

  • Ticket order fulfillments and mailings for games and concerts (will receive training on Ticketmaster Archtics software).
  • Prepare spreadsheet for each game and concert/event of all suites, loges, and terrace tables.
  • Update client contact information and other documents as needed.

Game Day and Game Night Responsibilities:

  • Perform a full suite/club walk through to check for cleanliness, maintenance issues, and overall appearance each game day.
  • Assist Premium Seating Specialist in fulfilling game night experiences for premium clients such as: taking a scratched player to a suite for pictures/autographs, escorting guests to a radio booth or production room visit or Zamboni ride, and/or fulfilling and following up on any other pre-planned special experiences.
  • Ensure that all above-mentioned game night experiences are documented through photo or video and see that the appropriate client receives photo or video.
  • Communicate with other departments such as Guest Services, DNC Sportservice, Maintenance, Housekeeping, and Engineering as needed to report any guest, food and beverage, or building issues that arise.

Summary:

The Columbus Blue Jackets are seeking a passionate and hardworking individual who is committed to becoming a sales professional. Our ticket sales internship program is designed for students who want to gain first-hand experience on the front lines of a professional sports team.  Under the direction of the sales leadership team, the intern will assist in all aspects of the Ticket Sales and Service department including sales training, event preparation and execution, database collection, etc. The internship will also gain experience in other areas such as marketing, promotions, and operations as needed.

2015-2016 Season Video Production Intern - Columbus Blue Jackets (Columbus, OH)

Summary:

Create video web content for Jackets TV on BlueJackets.com

Responsibilities:

Training camp:

  • Assist with producing daily reports that cover a different angle of the preparation for the season each day. These reports will include b-roll, interviews and stand-ups with the help of a CBJ broadcaster.

Game days:

  • Daily practice reports: Shoot and edit video at the CBJ morning skate and the visiting team practice. Work with CBJ broadcast talent to shoot and later edit a pre-game package previewing that night's game.
  • Post-game production: Shoot and edit locker room interviews and post on website.

Non-game days:

  • Shoot non-game day interviews or features with broadcasters or players. Later edit and post video on Jackets TV.
  • Produce various feature videos centering on activities with the players, coaching staff and Blue Jackets departments (Community Development, Fan Development, Hockey Operations, etc). Help develop scripting, production requirements (camera set-up, lighting, micing, etc) prior to shoot date.
  • Develop additional video content ideas to be produced and posted on Jackets TV (BlueJackets.com) with direction and support of the digital media and marketing team.                                                                                                                         

Education/ Experience:

  • Currently enrolled in a two or four year college or university. Broadcast journalism, mass communications, radio/television or a similar major highly preferred.
  • Ideal candidate will have prior classroom or hands-on experience with operating cameras, lighting systems, editing systems (non-linear systems like Avid, Final Cut or Adobe Premiere), audio, scripting, etc.
  • Must have good communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ice hockey and the Columbus Blue Jackets.
  • Must be able to react under pressure.

 Required Hours:  Game days: 10a.m.-1p.m.; Game nights: 6:00 p.m. to 11 p.m. Non-gameday hours will be required for shooting and editing larger video projects and be determined a week by week basis.

Director of Corporate Development Services - Columbus Blue Jackets (Columbus, OH)

This position is responsible for the service and activation of all sponsorship and premium seating partnerships of the Columbus Blue Jackets, which includes directly managing a staff of four partnership account specialists and two premium seating specialists that serve as day-to-day contacts with the team’s partners.  Additionally, the role is involved in assisting with developing sales strategies for the team’s Corporate Development department through the management of the department’s sales coordinator role which is responsible for creation of all sales presentations.

In addition to serving as a leader of the Corporate Development Services staff, the Director of Corporate Development serves as an internal facilitator between departments (Marketing, Game Operations, etc…) to ensure fulfilment of partnership and premium seating assets.

The primary function of the role is to develop a strategy and a staff that delivers world class service to key corporate customers of the Blue Jackets.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the execution of all elements of the Columbus Blue Jackets’ 85+ Marketing Partnership Agreements, including but not limited to signage, electronic media that includes radio, television and website, print media, hospitality, LED, all promotional activities, in-game elements, community development and fan development.
  • Oversee the customer service provided to over 120 premium seating owners at Nationwide Arena including full and partial owners of Suites, Club Loge Boxes and Club Terrace Tables.
  • Directly supervise a current staff of seven employees, which includes hiring, training, planning and directing work, and performance appraisals.
  • Develop and manage compensation plans for direct reports that incent and motivate great individual performance.
  • Oversee department’s account management procedures including documentation of communication and fulfillment tracking.
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients.
  • Manage communication strategies with partners.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of special events for partners and premium seating owners.
  • Develop a strategy for and coordinate compilation of year-end, qualitative/quantitative reports for key accounts.
  • Produce and/or oversee the production of excel workbooks that assist in tracking of department revenue, inventory and other financial analysis.
  • Attend Blue Jackets leadership meetings on behalf of the Corporate Development department.
  • Work in conjunction with the marketing activation specialist and promotions department on partner-related initiatives.
  • Assist with strategy development for the look and feel of sales presentations and supervise the sales coordinator’s production of presentations.
  • Seek and pursue added value opportunities for partners.

Game Responsibilities

  • Supervise the activation of any partner related game night promotions, hospitality, concourse tabling, etc., as directly managed by the partnership account specialists.
  • Assist in resolving any premium seating service situations as necessary with the premium seating specialists.

Education and/or Experience                                                

  • Four year college degree, with focus on Business Administration or Sports Management preferred.

Pre and Post-Game Host, Columbus Blue Jackets Radio Network - Columbus Blue Jackets (Columbus, OH)

The Pre and Post-Game Host will have responsibilities to anchor pre-game, intermission and post-game coverage for all game broadcasts distributed on the 33-station Columbus Blue Jackets Radio Network, BlueJackets.com and the Blue Jackets Mobile App.

This is a part time position.

Responsibilities:

  • Pre-game: Introduce the broadcast and transition through each segment including coach’s interview; player interview and opponent preview.
  • In-game: Provide score updates and game recaps coming out of select breaks.
  • Intermissions: Host each segment and conduct interviews with Blue Jackets’ players and other team personnel.
  • Post-game: Anchor the post-game show from Nationwide Arena including game recap, NHL scores, player interviews, coach’s press conference, next game preview and closing remarks.
  • Other: Periodically attend morning skates to obtain audio from players and coaches.                                                                       

Minimum Requirements: 

  • 3-5 years radio experience in an on-air capacity.
  • Strong knowledge of the Columbus Blue Jackets players, coaches, and key Hockey Operations staff and the NHL, specifically those teams in the Eastern Conference and the Metropolitan Division.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including scripting.
  • Availability to work all Blue Jackets pre-season, regular season and post-season games.
