Interning with the New York Islanders Organization is an experience unlike any other. Interns learn the inner workings of how a successful professional sports organization works.

The Islanders believe that interns are part of the foundation of any successful organization.  The Islanders are searching for prospective employees that would like an opportunity in the ever-competitive sports industry. As part of Islanders University, interns will experience the thrill of closing a sale, the importance of serving as an ambassador for the team in the community and the excitement of designing some of the most cutting edge merchandise seen around the league.

An intern should generally expect to work from 20-30 hours each week (days and hours can be flexible based on school schedules) and these hours would include working most events, and game nights. All intern positions call for general administrative work including, but not limited to: Maintaining and organizing files, data entry, copying, filing and faxing.

Internship Description:

For the duration of this internship, interns will be responsible for assisting our accounting staff with multiple tasks. These tasks include general office administration duties, journal entries, counting and keeping track of cash and check, and assisting in the accounting of our American Hockey League affiliate, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Interns may also have to attend New York Islanders events such as Casino Night, and New York Islanders Children’s Foundation events.

Qualifications:

Interns must possess strong organizational and communication (both oral and written) skills. Interns must be proficient in Microsoft Office and internet navigation. Interns also must have the ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative, in addition to being able to handle multiple tasks and prioritize. A professional attitude will be expected.

An intern should generally expect to work from 20-30 hours each week (days and hours can be flexible based on school schedules). All intern positions call for general administrative work including, but not limited to: Maintaining and organizing files, data entry, copying, filing and faxing.

Internship Description:

  • Provide excellent customer service both in person and over the phone
  • Give out general information and answer questions about the facility and all programs
  • Update and maintain class/program rosters

INTERNSHIP: Islanders TV Fall 2017 - New York Islanders Hockey Club (Plainview, NY)

Description:

The New York Islanders are looking for motivated interns with video production experience to have the opportunity to learn how to develop and create content for a variety of Sports Broadcasting platforms. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Intern must be pursuing or has pursued a degree in Film, Television Production, Broadcast Journalism, Communications, or a closely related field.
  • Internship will be 1-3 office days as well as occasional Islanders Game day/Game nights.
  • Willingness to work days, nights and weekends.
  • Must have own transportation. 
  • Proficient with Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro 7
  • Knowledge of basic lighting techniques
  • Experience in shooting with HD professional cameras (Sony XD Cam, EX, FS7, F55, GoPro)

 Desired but not required qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, After Effects, Illustrator)
  • Knowledge of DSLRs and lenses

Game Days/Game Nights include:

  • Opportunity to gain hands on experience learning how Islanders public relations, game content, fan footage and other community related events are filmed.
  • Opportunity to gain experience with how video staff work with professional athletes and Islanders executives (coaches and management).

 Islanders TV Internship offers the chance to:

  • Gain experience & knowledge of how filming live sporting events is done.
  • Learn how to develop, create and produce a variety of packages for Islanders TV.
  • Learn how to log, cut, and organize Islanders Highlight Melts.
  • Acquire the ability of how to create 2D/3D GFX & Animations.

INTERNSHIP: Youth Hockey Development: Fall 2017 - New York Islanders Hockey Club (East Meadow, NY)

Description: 
The New York Islanders are seeking an eager and hard-working individual to assist the amateur hockey development staff as an intern.

The Islanders amateur hockey development intern is responsible for assisting with a variety of duties on a day-to-day basis, both in the office and around hockey rinks. The right individual must take pride in their work and pay attention to detail. Interns must have a strong understanding of the sport of hockey, be able to multi-task, and have strong organizational skills.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist with and maintain the amateur hockey database
  • Assist with the day-to-day operations of all amateur hockey programs, including, but not limited to:
  • Islanders Hockey Academy, Jr. Islanders Hockey Team, Linzer House Tournament, Lighthouse International Youth Hockey Tournament and Islanders Youth Hockey Jamboree
  • Assist with the registration of participants for all amateur hockey programs
  • Photograph all programs sessions for use on NewYorkIslanders.com and marketing materials; photography skills can be taught
  • Attend ICE (Islanders Community Events) Tour happenings to promote amateur hockey programs
  • Office duties
  • Assist in building relationships with participating parents and families, and attend programs

Qualifications:

  • Trustworthy, polite, positive, respectful self-starter who works well with others
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Photography skills are also highly regarded

Facility Operations/Security: Maintenance
Part Time Zamboni Driver- Northwell Health Ice Center - New York Islanders Hockey Club (East Meadow, NY)

Description:

Under the supervision of the facilities manager this position is responsible for driving the Zamboni correctly and safely to ensure and maintain acceptable ice conditions of our indoor and outdoor rinks.

Responsibilities:

  • Use and properly care for ice equipment, including ice-resurfacer and ice-edger with multiple manual controls, gears and foot pedals. This requires good vision, hearing and dexterity.
  • Keep all areas of the facility neat, clean and safe at all times.
  • Making sure all entrances are clear of all debris including snow
  • Be able to follow safety guidelines and exercise good judgment in all aspects of responsibilities
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills necessary
  • Previous facility operations experience is a plus
  • Ability to ice skate is a plus

Qualifications:

  • Must have valid driver’s license
  • Experience driving a Zamboni and/or Olympia resurfacing machine
  • MUST be able to work nights and weekends
  • Be able to work in a fast paced environment
