Islanders University is an experience unlike any other. As a participant in the Islanders University program, interns learn the inner workings of how to run a successful professional sports organization.

An intern should expect to work anywhere from 20-30 hours each week (days and hours can be flexible based on school schedules) and these hours would include working most events/game nights. All intern positions call for general administrative work including, but not limited to: maintaining/organizing files, data entry, copying, filing and faxing. Interns must possess strong organizational and communication (both oral and written) skills. Interns must be proficient in Microsoft Office and internet navigation. Interns also must have the ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative, in addition to being able to handle multiple tasks and prioritize. A professional attitude will be expected. Accounting Internship:
An intern in the accounting department will perform general office duties, which include but are not limited to: assisting with the financials for the New York Islanders, Islanders Children’s Foundation, Islanders Iceworks and Bridgeport Sound Tigers. You will be assisting with the recording and reconciling of daily ticket batches, preparing and recording journal entries, monthly bank reconciliations, various P&L and balance sheet account analysis, assisting in the maintenance of Islanders Kids Club information and fees, counting and organizing game night monies collected and helping to assist with management reports.

Internships: Any Internship
INTERNSHIP: Community Relations Fall 2016 - New York Islanders Hockey Club (Uniondale, NY)

The Islanders Community Relations department acts as a liaison between the Islanders and the Long Island community. Interns entering into this department will participate in planning and hosting events throughout Long Island as part of our grassroots marketing campaigns. These events could include appearances from players, the Ice Girls and our mascot, Sparky. Interns will also assist with charitable in-kind donation requests, fulfillment of New York Islanders Kids Club and help the CR department on game nights. This will include Islanders Children’s Foundation fundraising. Interns will also help assist at Islanders Children’s Foundation events including the Islanders Golf Outing.

Internships: Broadcast Operations
INTERNSHIP: Fall 2016 Islanders TV Video Production - New York Islanders (Plainview, NY)

Reports to: Islanders TV Producer

Status: Internship/Temporary

Description:

  • The New York Islanders are looking for motivated interns with video production experience to have the opportunity to learn how to develop and create content for a variety of Sports Broadcasting platforms. 
  • Required Qualifications:
  • Intern must be pursuing or has pursued a degree in Film, Television Production, Broadcast Journalism, Communications, or a closely related field.
  • Internship will be 1-3 office days as well as occasional Islanders Game day/Game nights, must have own transportation. 
  • Proficient with Final Cut Studio 7 and or Adobe Premiere
  • Knowledge of basic lighting techniques
  • Experience in shooting with HD professional cameras 

 Desired but not required qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, After Effects, Illustrator)
  • Knowledge of Apple Motion

 Game Days/Game Nights include:

  • Opportunity to gain hands on experience learning how Islanders pregame productions, fan footage and other community related contents are filmed.
  • Opportunity to gain experience with how video staff work with professional athletes and Islanders executives (coaches and management).

 Islanders TV Internship offers the chance to:

  • Gain experience & knowledge of how filming live sporting events is done
  • Learn how to develop, create and produce a variety of packages for Islanders TV.
  • Learn how to log, cut, and organize Islanders Highlight Melts.
  • Acquire the ability of how to create 2D/3D GFX & Animations.

Islanders Iceworks is the official practice facility of the New York Islanders. It also serves as a thriving figure skating and youth hockey training academy. Interns participating at the Iceworks Facility must be detail-oriented, well-organized and must possess a responsible nature. Interns should have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be prepared to assist Iceworks staff in interacting with a large customer base in a professional manner.

Youth Hockey Development Internship 
The New York Islanders are seeking an eager and hard-working individual to assist the amateur hockey development staff as an intern.
The Islanders amateur hockey development intern is responsible for assisting with a variety of duties on a day-to-day basis, both in the office and around hockey rinks. The right individual must take pride in their work and pay attention to detail. Interns must have a strong understanding of the sport of hockey and be able to multi-task, while maintaining high standards in their responsibilities.

Job Responsibilities:
• Assist with the maintain of the amateur hockey database
• Assist with the day-to-day operations of all amateur hockey programs, including, but not limited to:
Islanders Hockey Academy, Jr. Islanders Hockey Team, Linzer House Tournament, Lighthouse
International Youth Hockey Tournament and Islanders Youth Hockey Jamboree
• Assist with the registration of participants for all amateur hockey programs
•Learn how to photograph all program sessions for use on NewYorkIslanders.com and marketing collateral
• Attend ICE (Islanders Community Events Tour) happenings to promote amateur hockey programs
• Office duties
• Help in building relationships with participating parents and families, and attend programs

Qualifications:

·         Trustworthy, polite, positive, respectful self-starter who works well with others

·         Strong communication skills, both verbal and written

·         Detail-oriented with strong organization and project management skills

·         Photography skills are also highly regarded
